Nobel Laureate Thomas C. Südhof Announced as Keynote Speaker at SBMT 2026

We are honored to announce that Nobel Laureate Thomas C. Südhof will deliver a keynote address at the 23rd Annual World Congress of SBMT.

Dr. Südhof, born in Göttingen, Germany, is a world-renowned biologist, neurologist, and scientific researcher whose work fundamentally reshaped our understanding of how brain cells communicate. After earning his doctorate at the University of Göttingen and training under Nobel Prize–winning mentors Michael S. Brown and Joseph L. Goldstein at Harvard, Südhof went on to lead pioneering research in neurobiology.

In 2013, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, together with James E. Rothman and Randy Schekman, for discovering the mechanisms that regulate vesicle trafficking — the cellular process that enables precise neurotransmitter release at synapses.
This discovery is central to how neurons communicate and is foundational to modern neuroscience, influencing treatments for Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, autism, epilepsy, and neuropsychiatric disorders.

His Nobel Prize followed the prestigious Albert Lasker Award, reinforcing a career defined by excellence, precision, and transformative impact.

Today, Dr. Südhof is a professor at Stanford University, where his research continues to illuminate the molecular logic of synaptic communication.

His keynote at SBMT 2026 will be a defining moment — an opportunity to hear directly from one of the most influential scientific thinkers of our time.
