Our Commitment

Honoring Service Through Science and Innovation

For the last three decades, the World Brain Mapping Foundation (WBMF) states that it has worked to address the distinct challenges veterans face in brain, spine and mental health.

Its stated approach includes supporting pioneering research and advancing the integration of technologies originating in space and defense into clinical practice, with the goal of improving approaches to diagnosis and treatment for veterans and wounded service members.

Areas of concern include traumatic brain injury (TBI), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), brain cancer, chronic pain and other neurological conditions associated with military service.

The mission extends beyond the individual patient. Families, healthcare professionals, researchers and institutional partners all have a role in improving awareness, access to information and pathways to care.

The Mission

Better Understanding.
Better Care.
Stronger Futures.

A commitment to advancing neurological health for those who have served and the families who stand beside them.

Areas of Focus

Understanding the Challenges

Military service and the transition to civilian life can involve complex health needs. WBMF identifies neurological, spinal and mental health conditions as priorities for research and innovation.

01 / NEUROLOGY

Traumatic Brain Injury

TBI can affect cognition, memory, balance, sleep, mood and everyday functioning. Blast exposure and other head injuries can require careful assessment and individualized follow-up.

02 / MENTAL HEALTH

PTSD & Psychological Health

Post-traumatic stress disorder can affect wellbeing, relationships, sleep and daily life. Timely assessment and evidence-based care are important components of supporting recovery.

03 / ONCOLOGY

Brain Cancer

Brain tumors and other neurological cancers present complex diagnostic and treatment challenges. Research into improved detection and therapeutic approaches remains an important area of neuroscience.

04 / SPINE HEALTH

Spinal Conditions & Injury

Spinal injuries and related neurological problems can affect mobility, independence and quality of life. Appropriate assessment and coordinated care help address individual needs.

05 / PAIN MANAGEMENT

Chronic Pain

Persistent pain may coexist with TBI, PTSD and other health concerns. An individualized, multidisciplinary approach can help clinicians address the different factors affecting a patient's life.

06 / TRANSLATIONAL SCIENCE

Emerging Diagnostics & Therapeutics

Translational research explores how scientific discoveries and advanced technologies may contribute to better diagnostic tools and treatment options. Clinical benefit must be established through appropriate evidence and evaluation.

Research & Collaboration

Connecting Neuroscience With Clinical Needs

WBMF describes a history of engagement with defense, military medicine and veterans' health stakeholders on issues affecting wounded service members and veterans.

01

Advanced Research

Support for pioneering research addressing neurological disorders and the complex health needs of veterans and wounded service members.

02

Technology Translation

Exploration of how technologies developed in space and defense environments may be integrated into clinical settings when supported by appropriate validation and evidence.

03

Defense & Military Medicine

WBMF identifies engagement with defense and military medicine stakeholders, including organizations concerned with the health and wellbeing of wounded service members.

04

Clinical Research Awareness

Helping families explore information about relevant clinical trials and discuss potential research opportunities with qualified healthcare professionals.

Institutional engagement: WBMF's existing program description names the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Joint Chiefs of Staff, DARPA, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Department of Defense service branches and the Department of Veterans Affairs among its stated areas of engagement. These references describe WBMF's account of its historical work and should not be interpreted as an endorsement, current contract or formal partnership unless independently documented.

Family & Caregiver Support

Supporting Those Who Stand Beside Our Veterans

A serious neurological injury or persistent mental health condition can affect an entire family. Access to reliable information can help family members prepare questions, understand care options and participate in conversations with a veteran's healthcare team.

WBMF states that it works with veterans' families to identify relevant clinical-trial and therapeutic information. Any decision about an investigational treatment should be made with the treating medical team, considering eligibility, evidence, risks and alternatives.

The Foundation welcomes dialogue with qualified clinicians, researchers and institutions interested in advancing responsible approaches to veterans' health.

Understand the diagnosis Ask clinicians about symptoms, assessment, expected follow-up and available treatment options.
Explore research responsibly Review clinical-trial eligibility, study status, potential risks and alternatives with qualified healthcare professionals.
Coordinate ongoing care Discuss neurological, psychological, physical and rehabilitation needs with the relevant care team.
Build informed partnerships Connect research, medical and community organizations around evidence-based approaches to veterans' wellbeing.
