Dr. Werne has a long and distinguished engineering career ranging from, the position of Associate Director for Engineering and Technology Transfer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, to the cofounding of ITI Medical Technologies a medical device company. ITI designed, patented, and brought to market, surgical instruments for Magnetic Resonance Image Guided Surgery. More recently Dr. Werne manages the entrepreneurial business development programs at LLNL designed to teach LLNL scientists and engineers about business and bring entrepreneurial business people to LLNL to start companies and commercialize LLNL technology. Dr. Werne is a Masters Track & Field Pole Vaulter who was 6th in the world for his age group in 2019.
